An honest guide

Weight-loss injections aren't the answer for everybody

Medically reviewed by Muhammad Adnan, GPhC-registered Superintendent Pharmacist · Last updated June 2026

Weight-loss medication can be life-changing for the right person — but it isn't a magic bullet, and it isn't right for everyone. We'd rather have an honest conversation than put you on a treatment that won't help. Here's how we think about it.

A tool, not a quick fix

UK guidance (NICE) is clear that weight-loss medicines should never be used on their own — only alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity. Medication on its own rarely delivers lasting results; the people who do best pair it with real, sustainable lifestyle change.

It may be a good fit if…

  • You have a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 or above with a weight-related health condition (a general private guide).
  • You've struggled to lose weight through diet and activity alone.
  • You're ready to make lasting changes to your eating and lifestyle alongside treatment.
  • You can attend a face-to-face review at least once a month.

It may not be the answer if…

  • You only want to lose a few pounds before a holiday or event.
  • You're pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to conceive.
  • You aren't ready or able to change your diet and activity yet.
  • You have certain medical histories (see our contraindications guide).
  • You're under 18 — these treatments aren't licensed for general weight loss in children.

Alternatives we'll talk through

If medication isn't right for you — or you'd rather start elsewhere — we'll discuss the options honestly, including:

Our promise

We will tell you honestly if treatment isn't right for you, and we won't pressure you into it. Every plan starts with a face-to-face assessment and includes a review at least once a month.
